In this performance-reading, Jana Omar Elkhatib engages failures of listening across language, sound, text, transcription, and inherited memory. She considers alternative measures of intimacy across distance. This performance builds on Elkhatib’s work on familial geographies being poetically refracted through language, oral/aural memory, performance, and the voice.

Jana Elkhatib is an artist and writer working across performance, sound, and fiction. Her work has been supported by the Banff Centre, Hamilton Artists Inc, La Corvée Paris, La Centrale Galerie Montreal, and the Canada Council for the Arts, among others. Elkhatib holds an MFA in fiction from Brown and currently teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Her practice has been featured in Canadian Art magazine and her fiction has been published in Brick magazine.
