Full Circle is a work that employs the codes of contemporary news reporting, using green screen and geobrowser technologies to assist news reporters in illustrating content comprehensively and more richly; however the content on this specific video is openly obscured with methods of torture and silencing in the attempt to paradoxically give an account of an event whose specificity is inhuman while resisting the impulse to banalize it in articulating it into discourse with the same devices that organized crime and brutal regimes use to torture and silence any voices of dissidence.
Manolo Lugo is a Mexican born Toronto-based artist and educator working in performance, video, photography, and installation. His work speaks to the conditions of migrancy, precarity and queerness in advanced capitalism. He has performed and exhibited nationally and internationally in venues including the University of Toronto’s Art Centre, AGO’s First Thursdays, Sur Gallery, TRANSMUTED International Festival of Performance Art (Mexico City), LIVE Biennial of Performance Art (Vancouver), Visualeyez Performance Art Festival (Edmonton), among other venues. He received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University and completed a Masters of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto in 2013. He has worked as a faculty in the Visual Studies Department at the University of Toronto and at OCAD University; he is currently the Digital Media Technician in the Studio Arts Program at the University of Toronto, Scarborough as well as a specialist in Art Documentation.
