In recent years I have been creating performances in response to a location, often referencing the history of the site or its social uses, and working with the immediate landscape, architecture or materiality of the location. Generally I do not come with a plan of what I will do, but design an action in response to the location that I have chosen on arrival. The sites in which I have made work have ranged from a former Cold War missile base in the United States, to a 15th century Turkish bath in Macedonia, to an aluminum factory in Argentina, to the site of the Spanish landing in the Philippines.

Marilyn Arsem has been creating live events since 1975. She has presented work throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America. She is the founder of Mobius, Inc., a Boston-based collaborative of interdisciplinary artists. She is on the faculty of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where she teaches performance art.
